The Tcl XML Documentation Project

This is the homepage for an ongoing effort to convert all Tcl/Tk documentation from the troff format into XML. The first fruits of this effort were the HTML manpages for Tcl/Tk that appeared on the first TclBlast! CD-ROM from the Tcl Consortium.

March 22, 1999 Fixed several bugs in the tmml2troff converter which translates TMML into Unix manpages. The new archive is http://www.hwaci.com/sw/tcldoc/beta5.tar.gz.

February 26, 1999 There is a small bug in the XML parser in the previous versions. This version fixes the problem. The archive is http://www.hwaci.com/sw/tcldoc/beta4.tar.gz.

October 18, 1998 The third public beta release of the XML sources for the core Tcl/Tk documentation is available from http://www.hwaci.com/sw/tcldoc/beta3.tar.gz. (502787 bytes) This is a beta release. The names and meanings of the XML tags are subject to change. Use this information with appropriate caution.
There are not changes to the XML in this release. The only change is the addition of two new conversion filters for the XML.

tmml2troff
This filter converts XML into the troff manpage format used by older Unix systems. This particular filter has not been extensively tested and probably needs further work.

tmml2tmml
This filter converts the XML back into the same XML, but it adjusts whitespace and line breaks to make the file more readable. Think of this as an XML beautifier.
